Visit Menorca, the Balearics best-kept secret

Menorca: marching to its own beat

A designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Menorca is rich in nature, history and culture.

We invite you to discover an island that fiercely protects its natural beauty, supporting pristine landscapes, crystal clear waters and important Talyotic (Bronze Age) structures. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve over 30 years ago, the island offers a retreat from the everyday, alive with flora and fauna including rare orchids and birds of prey.

Underwater delights

Thanks to UNESCO Biosphere protections that extend up to 12 nautical miles into the sea, the surrounding azure waters provide a sanctuary for marine life, coral reefs and Posidonia seagrass meadows. Dive into the soft depths, snorkel, paddleboard or enjoy a half- or full-day boat excursion.

Towns and villages

The island is studded with charming white-washed villages and two vibrant cities. Ciutadella, the island’s second city and only 25 minutes from Santa Ana, is a true gem with its picturesque port, maze-like old quarter, grand honey-hued buildings and a fascinating collection of Baroque and Gothic churches. Maó, or Mahón, the island’s capital, offers a delightful blend of elegant Georgian townhouses and modern apartments, with a labyrinth of hidden alleyways weaving through its compact centre. Brimming with restaurants and cafés, Mahón is always a lively spot for an evening out.

Fiesta time

If you visit between June and September, you can’t miss Jaleo, the island’s vibrant horse fiesta. Nearly every town hosts a saint’s celebration, beginning in Ciutadella and concluding in the capital, Maó (Mahón). Gleaming black horses parade through the streets with fearless riders perched atop them, while cheering crowds gather around—some daring to touch the horse’s chest for good luck. The festivities continue late into the night, drawing islanders and visitors alike, who raise a toast with a pomada — a local Xoriguer gin and lemonade.

Feasting time

You’re spoilt for choice for dining options in Ciutadella and Mao (Mahón). From Michelin recommended eateries to Asian fusion and traditional Menorcan fare, you’ll find an establishment to suit. For the island’s renowned lobster bisque, book a table at Sa Llagosta in pretty Fornells. Or, visit Vestige Son Vell, our inaugural Menorcan hotel located on the south coast, and enjoy a superb lunch at Sa Clarisa or delicious dinner at Vermell.
