FIESTA TIME

Spain’s rich cultural landscape bursts into technicolour with a series of lively local fiestas, each brimming with distinct traditions and charm. Though every celebration is unique, they all share a common thread: music and movement, seasonal cuisine and a helping of pure joy. From Menorca and Mallorca to Asturias, summer festivals light up the season — and when you stay with us in Spain, you’re warmly invited to join the fun.

Stay at Vestige Son Vell in Menorca and enjoy:

  • Fiestas of Sant Joan in Ciutadella: Celebrated on June 23 and 24, this festival transforms our neighbouring town of Ciutadella into a vibrant hub of festivity. Known as Jaleo, the highlight of the celebrations is watching skilled riders perched atop elegantly adorned horses, which parade through the streets while daring onlookers attempt to touch the horses’ hearts for good luck. The festivities culminate with bonfires, a fireworks display and plenty of fiery pomada – local Xoriguer gin and lemon.

Notable performers include Iggy Pop, Nathy Peluso, Bad Gyal and Suede. The event offers attendees a blend of musical genres and artistic experiences.

Stay at Vestige Palacio de Figueras in Asturias and work your way through:

  • L’Amuravela in Cudillero: Held annually on June 29, this unique festival features a sermon delivered in verse, summarizing the year’s events with irony and humour. The sermon is presented in the local ‘pixueto’ dialect, reflecting the town’s rich maritime heritage.

  • Interceltic Festival in Avilés: Taking place every July, this festival celebrates the shared Celtic heritage of various European regions. It showcases traditional music, dance performances, parades and craft fairs from Celtic nations such as Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and Galicia.

  • International Descent of the Sella River: Held on the first Saturday of August since 1929, this world-renowned canoe festival is one of the largest races across the globe. Participants paddle along a 20 km stretch of the river Sella, starting in Arriondas and finishing in the coastal town of Ribadesella.
