A JOURNEY ALONG THE CAMÍ DE CAVALLS

The historic Camí de Cavalls offers the perfect introduction to an island alive with natural beauty and cultural history. This well-maintained 185-kilometre trail ribbons around the entire island, and is a unique way to explore Menorca’s breathtaking landscapes, secluded beaches and Talyotic Bronze Age landmarks.

Embrace the wonders of Menorca by exploring the Camí de Cavalls; whether on foot, by bike or in the saddle, it’s an adventure you’ll never forget. With its proximity to Vestige Son Vell, just one-kilometre from the door, here’s everything you need to know about what makes this trail so special.

Spectacular sea views, pristine natural landscapes, turquoise hidden bays

One of the most striking aspects of the Camí de Cavalls is its scenery. At every step and around every twist and turn of your journey, you are rewarded with spectacular sea views, pristine natural landscapes and the refreshing option to take a dip at one of myriad sandy beaches and hidden coves — often you’ll have a bay all to yourself. It’s perfectly accessible for adventurers of all levels, offering clear signage and options to hop on and off as you wish. As well as setting off on foot, we have e-bikes to borrow and horse riding can be arranged too.

Off the beaten track: sights beyond the trail

We provide you with information, maps and tips for planning your route and transportation is available at either end of the trail, making it easy to return to the hotel after a day of exploring for a well-deserved drink at the bar.

Our Guest Experience Manager José Molina recommends heading eastward to visit the stunning coves of Son Saura, Es Talaier, Cala en Turqueta, Cala Macarelleta and Macarella, eventually reaching the iconic Cala Galdana. And to the west, you’ll find the fascinating Cova d’es Pardals, and further along, the areas of Son Xoriguer and Cala’n Bosch.

Beyond the beach, Menorca’s Talayotic culture, which dates back to the Bronze Age, has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. With over 1,500 archaeological sites scattered across the island, Menorca is one of the richest and most unique archaeological landscapes in the world. This fascinating heritage has been carefully preserved adding an extra layer of cultural discovery to your adventure along the trail.

It’s also worth noting that Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a designation that highlights the island’s exceptional balance between nature conservation and sustainable development. The island’s Mediterranean landscape is a haven for biodiversity that hums with wildlife, and the Camí de Cavalls allows you to explore some of its most pristine areas while respecting the environment.

On foot, by e-bike or in the saddle: the best way to explore

When it comes to traversing the Camí de Cavalls, guests often ask about the best way to explore. While hiking is recommended, as some sections of the trail can be quite challenging, the trail is also perfect for cycling — borrow one of our e-bikes if you want an extra boost. For those seeking a more unique experience, horse riding along the trail is nothing short of magical. From Vestige Son Vell, we offer a two-hour hack to the beaches of Son Saura and back, covering a total of 6 kilometres.

The history and legend behind the trail

One of the most captivating aspects of the Camí de Cavalls is its historical significance. The trail dates back to the 14th-century when it served as a military route for watchmen tasked with guarding Menorca’s coastline against pirate invasions. Legend has it that knights on horseback patrolled the island, watching for enemy sails on the horizon and sending smoke or flag signals to warn of impending danger. Today, the trail still holds echoes of its past, allowing travellers to walk in the footsteps of those ancient guardians.
