Where the wild roams free
Positioned on a prehistoric Kalahari sand dune overlooking an ancient dry riverbed, Vestige Xaudum sits beneath the shaded canopy of Kalahari woodland in the northern section of Khaudum National Park.
With fewer than 3,000 visitors each year, the park remains one of Africa’s best-kept secrets. Surrounded by ancient omiramba (fossil river valleys), acacia woodland and natural wildlife corridors, large herds of elephants move along well-trodden migratory routes, alongside roan antelope and endangered African wild dogs, also known as painted wolves. Entirely unfenced, the landscape allows wildlife to move freely and behave naturally.
The birdlife is a real draw, with resident and migratory birds accounting for more than 320 species, including eagles, falcons, storks, southern ground hornbills, African hobbies and racket-tailed rollers. At dawn, the woodland comes alive with a chorus of birdsong, offering an evocative start to each day.

Appealing to adventurous spirits, the landscape is rugged and untamed. Spanning 384,000 hectares, the park requires careful navigation and specialist vehicles to explore, all provided by our experienced guides. A Vestige safari isn’t measured by the number of sightings, but by the depth of your connection to the landscape. There is time to change plans because lions were heard nearby, to spend an hour observing an elephant herd, to listen and watch extraordinary birds.

International flights arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital and principal international gateway. Wherever your journey begins, Vestige Xaudum can be reached by private charter flight or 4WD. Those arriving by air will land at the lodge’s private airstrip, followed by a short scenic 4WD transfer.
