Vestige Estudio: the art of restoration

As the creative force behind every Vestige project, Madrid-based Vestige Estudio was born from a simple ambition: to restore forgotten historic buildings with the same care and attention as if they were family homes. What began as a small team of four architects and one interior designer has grown into a multidisciplinary studio of almost 80 specialists, bringing together architects, interior designers, landscape architects, render artists and restoration experts who share a passion for breathing new life into Spain’s architectural heritage.

Vestige Collection Co-Founder Marta Madera explains; “The first property was never intended to become a hotel. We were restoring it as a family home, and that changed everything. It taught us that the most meaningful spaces aren’t designed around hospitality, they’re designed around how people live. That philosophy still shapes every project we undertake, whether it’s a boutique hotel or an exclusive-use private estate.”

Restoring places with purpose

Today, the studio restores and carefully revives remarkable buildings across Menorca, Mallorca, Asturias, Extremadura and the Basque Country, breathing fresh life into forgotten buildings and creating places that offer privacy and a deep connection to their surroundings. From 14th-century castles to early 20th-century modernist homes, Vestige Estudio has a knack for preserving their character while thoughtfully adapting them for contemporary living.

At the heart of every project is a philosophy of regeneration rather than replacement. Historic materials are reused wherever possible, local craftspeople and regional building traditions are embraced, and every design is rooted in a deep understanding of place. Contemporary artworks sit alongside antiques from the family collection, while bespoke furniture designed by the studio and handcrafted by artisans in Menorca creates interiors that feel both timeless and unmistakably connected to their surroundings.

A studio that grew organically

Marta continues; “As each restoration became more ambitious, so did the studio. We grew organically, from five people to almost 80, because every project demanded new expertise. Today, having architecture, interior and landscape designers working together under one roof allows us to shape every destination from its first sketch to its final flourishes.”

The new website offers a window into the studio’s philosophy, creative process and growing portfolio of restoration projects, revealing the craftsmanship, collaboration and attention to detail behind every Vestige destination. We invite you to explore our world and discover how history and design come together to create places with soul.
